Morris Kaye fur accessories in DallasAs you may have already realized from all of your research, there’s a lot more to the process of buying fur accessories in Dallas than any other piece of apparel out there. That’s because of the nature of fur fashion in itself. Vintage fur coats are meant to last a long while and possess the quality to match. If you plan to add one to your closet, you’ll want to be sure it’s the perfect match for you in every way, from its style to its color to the way it fits your body. That last component is especially important but, often times, overlooked. Whether your fur apparel will be custom made, or has caught your eyes on the store racks and demands to be bought, this guide will help you to ensure it’s the (literal) perfect fit for you.

For Coats

Since coats are the most commonly purchased fur accessories in Dallas and San Antonio, we feel it’s only appropriate to start with them. The way you measure for a fur coat is quite similar to how you’d measure for most other upper body garments. It all starts with tape—measuring tape, that is. Since most fur coats extend past your hips, you’ll want to measure up to that point.

To begin, extend both arms straight out at your sides. This will likely take the help of another person. Together you can hold your measuring tape up at your shoulder and draw it down to your wrists. This measurement will tell you how long the sleeves should be.

Next comes your shoulders, with the tape going from the edge of one shoulder to the other. This will give you an idea of how wide the shoulders should be. Afterwards should come your bust, which is the distance between your armpits. Much like your shoulder measurements, this measurement will record how large the chest of your fur coat should be. You can also measure around your chest for an even better fit.

Finally your hips and waist. Taking these measurements will involve wrapping the tape around the area where your hips are broadest, as well as the area where your waist is at its slimmest.

For Hats

You may find it odd to have to measure for a hat, but—much like with your coat—this is an important part of how to wear real fur accessories. Luckily, taking the measurements for this particular type of fur apparel is easy! All you have to do is wrap the measuring tape around your head and record the number at the end of the measuring tape.

We have one extra tip for you, no matter what type of fur apparel you’re measuring for: be careful with how tightly you wrap the measuring tape about your body. You don’t want to do it so tightly that it becomes uncomfortable, as this can throw off your measurements. Rather, you want to wrap it so that it fits well but isn’t too loose or too firm—just like the ideal fit for your new piece of fur apparel!
