Fur Cleaning
Mink Coats store better when they are cleaned first.

When it comes time to store your fur coat, you take it into your storage facility. All you need to do is drop it off, but what do they do with it after you leave? Most places will clean and inspect fur coats after they are dropped off by their owners before they are put into the storage vault. This process is extremely important. If it is missed, your fur coat may not make it through the summer in the proper condition.

Debris

Even though you may have never spilled anything on your fur coat, it may not be as clean as you think. Hanging in your closet all season and wearing it out and about throughout the winter can result in debris buildup on the coat. However, you probably won’t notice it because it will settle below the actual fur on the leather of the pelt instead. When your furrier cleans your fur coat, all lose hair and debris will wash free from your coat, helping to protect the pelt from drying out.

Damage

When your fur coat is cleaned by the fur storage facility, it will be closely inspected during the cleaning process. This will help identify any small instances of damage that can grow worse if left unrepaired. Finding these small repairs will allow the furrier to make the fur repairs necessary to avoid larger repairs later on. This inspection is likely to turn up damage you didn’t even know existed.

Glazing

Another part of the cleaning process is known as glazing. Once your fur coat is appropriately cleaned, it will go through a specific process that uses a combination of steaming and special ironing to fluff the fur and give the fur back its shine. This means you will get your fur coat back looking like new. This process is a very important part of the cleaning and inspection process that takes place when you take your coats in for fur storage.

A good furrier will make sure your coat is fully inspected and cleaned before putting it into storage. This will remove any loose debris and hair, as well as identify any damage, which can then be fixed easily. After the coat is cleaned through a special process, it will be steamed and ironed so the fur coat will resume its original look, giving you a coat that looks like new when it is time to take it out of storage for winter.
