Fur Coats
When damage occurs, a furrier can salvage your fur coat.

Fur coats cost a lot of money so you are more likely to take good care of it. Regardless of how well you take care of your fur coat, though, it can still be damaged through normal wear and tear, especially if you wear it often. Learning about the most common repairs and what a furrier can do about it will help you feel more confident if your furs do become damaged.

Closures

Zippers and other closures are often required to ensure you can maximize the warmth from your fur coats. However, because these items are added to the pelts, they are among the most likely aspects of your coat to become damaged. The seams holding these items into your coat may come loose or the zipper itself may become damaged. A furrier will be able to repair or replace these items for you so you can resume wearing your coat on a regular basis.

Tears

Another common problem people experience is tears in their fur coat. While these tears sometimes occur in the fur pelt itself, many times it occurs in the lining that is added to the coat. No matter where the tear occurs, your furrier will examine the problem and resolve it. Lining tears may be repaired or the entire lining may be replaced. Many tears in the pelt itself can also be repaired by a professional furrier.

Bald Spots

Shoulder straps and other rubbing can result in bald spots or thinning of the fur in some places. When this happens, you may feel there is nothing a furrier can even do for you. Fortunately, many furriers are able to replace small patches of fun on a fur coat without it being noticeable. This allows you to enjoy the fullness of the fur like you had before without looking like your coat is pieced together.

Damage can occur to your fur coats, regardless of how well you care for them. Whether the closure is damaged, there are tears anywhere in the coat or you are experiencing bald spots, a good furrier will be able to make changes to your coat to repair the damage. If the damage is too severe, you may want to consider restyling your furs or changing them into something entirely different to salvage your investment.
